Some Maana, a Kannada short film, based on a short story written by legendary writer and film maker Satyajit Ray, speaks about the mis-happenings on the part of the organizers during a state wide celebration.
Some Maana is a satirical representation of the Kannada word which actually is “San-maa-na” meaning “felicitation”.
The organizers of a well known association in the state of Karnataka plan to felicitate a very famous film actor for his achievements to the tinsel world as a part of the upcoming “Kannada Rajyotsava”, a festival celebrated in Karnataka to mark the formation of the state in Independent India.
‘Fate plays its own card’ as the secretary and the chief organizer get to know that the “Cine actor” who was supposed to receive the felicitation cancels his visit to the function as the date of function clashes with his shooting schedule. ‘Lighting strikes!’ as the organizers sit wondering and discussing the consequences of this unwelcomed news. The felicitation is a major part of the program and would have gained a lot of popularity on many local news papers, channels and other social media internet sites.
The Secretary of the association calls his core committee for a meeting to assess the situation and to discuss the further move. It is in this core committee meeting that the members of the association learn that every Kannadiga (person from Karnataka) who has achieved greater heights in his/her field has already been invited to felicitation programs by other associations on the same day. Completely unaware of further actions, the core committee ponders the next step and that’s when one of the members suggests a less known cartoon artist who has penned several cartoons for several comics.
The core committee members decide to felicitate the cartoon artist as a last resort and meet him at his house the very next day. What happens next is our film “Some Maana”
